Womens Week in Mount Isa

CELEBRATIONS of the achievements of Mount Isa’s women have received a funding boostfor the inaugural Queensland Women’s Week, March 7-13.

The Mount Isa City Council has obtained agrant through the Queensland Governmentand YWCA Queensland foran evening of celebration and support of women in Mount Isa at the Civic Centre on Thursday, March 10 at 6.30pm.

Supported by Zonta Club of Mount Isa and Women In Motion – Area Network (WIMAN), the freeevent held will be attended by past Mount Isa Australia Day award winners and Mount Isa LegendAwards.

The night willfeature a special screening of the acclaimed Australian film, I am a Girl which followsthe journey of young women across the globe.

Mayor Tony McGrady said he was delighted for Council to host a special evening specifically tocelebrate women in the community and all their achievements.

“From the very beginning of life in Mount Isa, this community has been grown and supported by agreat number of highly successful and innovative women. We simply would not have the valuablecommunity that we see today without them,” Cr McGrady said.

Zonta Club of Mount Isa and WIMAN will support Council to provide the free event and filmscreening, with canapés provided, and drinks, coffee, and popcorn for sale, with proceeds goingtowards Zonta charities.
